Votes and notes this week by Vince Morton from the Official Richmond Cheer Squad (ORCS). Thanks to Vince, Kerrie and all the ORCS for their banners and their never-say-die vocal encouragement of the Tigers, home and away.
5 votes – Dustin Martin – What can you say, clearly best on ground, breaking the packs, accurate kicking long running and even showed up the great GA junior. Clearly Richmond’s best player and a favourite for B&F this year.
4 votes – Brett Deledio – One number below, one place below. Coming back to form, and showing why we miss him so much when he is out. 3 good goals, and in the action a lot of the time.
3 votes – Shaun Grigg – Has been having his most consistent year, and continued it this week, being in the right place at the right time to send the ball forward to our players in the right places.
2 votes – Dylan Grimes – Often overlooked due to the presence of Alex Rance, but was there every time and somehow always manages to get that fist to the ball, Mr Consistent in defence, whilst going quietly along with his job.
1 vote – Shaun (Hammer) Hampson – much maligned, but really starting to show why we picked him up from Carlton. Showing his ruck ability, but more importantly starting to show his other abilities around the ground, and up forward.

Dugald says
Vince, I’m glad you got Dylan into the votes, reckon he’s such a game-changer for us, from defence into attack. He straightens us up, and has the confidence to kick through the middle of the ground. Likewise, reckon the team was all the better for Reece Conca’s return. In the last quarter, deep in defence, us behind and needing to make the play, he did something I reckon changed the game. He recieved the ball on back flank, turned and centred the ball to the top of square, middle of ground. It opened up the play and resulted in a goal. Strong and bold. Miss the pass and it would have been s turnover, and a possible goal to them and game over, and season over, and maybe a few careers over, but he rolled the dice and got it right. It’s players like Conca I enjoy watching at the football. I hope all his injuries are behind him. Hope he racks up a few votes in the Benny!
Good to sit next to you and Kerrie, and meet Tina and Lindsay at the football on Sunday. And thanks for being part of the Benny on the week Rioli (via South Fremantle!) is further immortalised!
Go Tiges!
Vince Morton says
Dugald, maybe you should have a chat with Lou Conca some time for an article. Both his sons are at Richmond.
Chris says
Good comment Dugald. For a bloke who gets negating roles quite often, Conca is creative and daring with the ball. This is a great example for last year I think.

Reece was in the mix,but was just pipped, but one thing better than Reece Conca is going to Concas pizza and chili mussels in Vic Park ( Not really, but good to put in a plug for nice people), Make sure when you are in Perth you go visit, and say hello to Reece’s dad Lou. Sometimes it is hard to look past the big names, but we need to acknowledge the other players that sometimes make the big names look so good.
Hope to see more of Reece, Dylan, and the other second string players making their mark.
