marcus

A boy who loves the TIgers but really struggles to explain why.

Where born? Hobart
Age: 12
Where do you live: Hobart
How did you come to barrack for Richmond: My dad goes for Richmond and so I followed him.
Favourite all-time player? Kevin Bartlett
Favourite current player? Hard to choose. Probably either Brandon Ellis or Daniel Jackson.
What do you most like about Richmond? What I most like about Richmond is the colours. [This took a lot of prompting – he is groping for positives right now like all of us]
Do you have a match-day superstition? Not really. Although I think that if we are playing Carlton and we are ahead at half time, we will lose.
Best experience at a game? Hard, because I have only been to 3 games and we lost all of them, probably a 30 point loss against Adelaide. We were losing from the very beginning and so it wasn’t that disappointing when we lost.
Worst experience at a game? A 2 point loss against Essendon. In this game we were ahead for all of the game, until 5 minutes from the end. Essendon scored, and then Richo kicked a couple of behinds. I was in tears. [The famous Mal Michael ‘hands-in-the-back’ game. Lloyd kicked one after the bell to make it 8]
When will we next win a premiership? 2022

Dave Anderson

Dave Anderson: wearing the colours with élan that we hold so dear.

Where born? Where born? Melbourne, in the People’s Democratic Republic of Coburg.
Age: 47
Where do you live: Thornbury, known otherwise as Hipsterville.
How did you come to barrack for Richmond: It’s the usual story. Dad and my older sister made me, so I was a Tiger from day dot. I was also born in a Premiership year, 1967. Dad used to live in Richmond when he was a young man, back in the tribal days, in the Jack Dyer days, and tells a story of Richmond players getting a pounding from the Collingwood fans if they stepped into Abbotsford, and vice versa for the Collingwood players.
Favourite all-time player? On my duffel coat I had Robert Wiley on the back, and I was one of the few going around that did. I liked Dick Clay and others, but Wiley was the one.
Favourite current player? Reece Conca. Apart from the Conca cuddle, I like that he’s a bit unassuming, he’s the sort of bloke who just quietly gets the job done. He’s a bit like Wiley, in that way. He has a lot of poise, but he’s also a no-frills footballer.
What do you most like about Richmond? I have to think about this. My love for them is undying. I think about the solidarity of that final last year. I was at the ’82 final, and other finals, but I’ve never had anything like the feeling when the boys ran out last September. We’ve all been through so much for so long. There have been so many lean years. I am proud to be a Tiger, and be part of such a diverse and willing and large supporter base.
Do you have a match-day superstition? There is a scarf from 2008, a membership scarf, that has to be with me at all games no matter the weather.
When will we next win a premiership? I would say we’ll get one in the next decade. I don’t know how I’m going to cope with it, but it would be nice to be back up the top.

Where born? Box Hill Hospital
Age: 7 (“I’m turning eight on the first of June”)
Where do you live: Croydon Hills
How did you come to barrack for Richmond: Because of my dad. He goes for Richmond. My older brother barracks for Collingwood. I’m not really sure why. I think because of my mum.
Favourite all-time player? See below
Favourite current player? Dustin Martin, because he kicks lots of goals.
What do you most like about Richmond? I don’t really know. [long pause] My favourite colour is yellow. I like the yellow in the jumper. And I like it when dad sings the song.
Do you have a match-day superstition? I watch most games on the telly. I watch with my dad and my brother, and that’s all.
When will we next win a premiership? I don’t really know. It might be next year.

Where born? Carlton
Age: 60-something
Where do you live: Elsternwick
How did you come to barrack for Richmond: How did you come to barrack for Richmond:  I was born into a house in Richmond. We lived at 152 Church Street, the house is still there, until I was eight. Dad went for Melbourne and he’d go along to games and their song was the first song I ever sung. Mum was Carlton. I was a Richmond girl.
Favourite all-time player? Royce Hart, number 4, he was just fantastic.
Favourite current player? Chris Newman. He was a great captain and he’s fantastic too. I love watching him play.
What do you most like about Richmond?  I just think I love the yellow and black. I’ve enjoyed coming along to the games and sitting with the cheer squad for the last eight years. They’re like a big family to me, and there’s so much passion, and they’re here every week, rain, hail or shine. I just come along and sit with friends and enjoy the football.
Do you have a match-day superstition? No. I can’t say anything because I don’t have one.
When will we next win a premiership? 2015, why not?

Kate McDonald

24/03/2014 By Dugald Leave a Comment

Where born? Shepparton, Victoria.
Age: 30 [Kate turns 31 on 29 March – happy birthday!]
Where do you live: Last season we were in St Kilda East but we’ve just moved to Elwood, near the border of St Kilda.
How did you come to barrack for Richmond:  My father barracked for them, and so did his mother. He was a farmer from Nagambie. It’s in the family.
Favourite all-time player?  I’m going to say, controversially, Wayne Campbell. I know he wasn’t a favourite at the club among supporters, but he always tried his heart out, and he was often playing in a team with some pretty average players. I think often his passion was misconstrued.
Favourite current player? Stevie Morris. He’s just head over the ball, as hard as nails. You want players like him in your team. He’s a great leader.
What do you most like about Richmond? I don’t know if ‘like’ is the right word. I just love going to the footy to see them play at the G. I’m so pumped about Thursday night. As long as they all try their hardest I just love to see them play.
Do you have a match-day superstition? “I used to always wear a Richmond singlet and a [yellow and black] checked shirt, but I’m not sure they’ve been working as a charm.
When will we next win a premiership? “I’m gonna say…[Long pause] 2017.”
