Great to see him attack the ball with enthusiasm and a dash of confidence. Took strong marks, got to dangerous places and had poise enough to kick some important goals. This needs to be his benchmark, not his stand out display.
3 votes: Cotchin (The 1-2 Handball = 3 Votes Award)
Has been criticised for his use of the 1-2 handball technique to increase his disposal count but he worked extremely hard to get the ball in and under while taking a lot of tackles, bumps and pressure. Leads by example.
2 votes: Sam Lloyd (The Small Mercies Award) For years I’ve annoyed my brothers by complaining that we did not have a small forward who could kick goals. We now have one, and while he appears to be a bit of s strange cat I can’t deny the importance of his three goals yesterday. His first was just terrific.
1 vote: Hampson (The I Can’t Believe What I Am Typing Award)
He was good. Took marks, got involved with more possessions than usual, didn’t fall over while trying to handball, kicked a goal and had a decent count of hit-outs. May God forgive me, because my younger brother never will.
Mentioned in dispatches; I considered Astbury and Rance too considering that they blanketed the much hyped Daniher to 0 impact. Also considered Castagna who I though showed a good deal of zest.

Lapsed Tiger says
Would have given Griff the 5, and Astbury a nod or two … but thats just me.
Martin says
Fair enough. I strongly considered both Rance and Astbury but fell to the fellow who didn’t fall over when trying to handball.
As for Griffiths, I thought it was a very good game, but I felt Dusty’s work all over the ground was enough to get the 5. As hard as it was I am much happier having had to do the votes for this match that the week that followed!
