This amazing game has just been uploaded to the www by oztiger73. I have only watched the first quarter but its bloody terrific. These are blokes I mostly know as footy cards only. Richmond are on the defensive from the start and it gives you a great chance to see legendary backs like Dick Clay and Bones McGhie ply their trade. For the Pies, Rod Oborne and George Bisset really catch the eye.

2016 R8 v Swans – LLLLLLLLOYD! LLOYDY!
This one is still fresh in the mind. So many moments to savour here. Brandon Ellis is out of form and had a dirty game but he saved us. Rance was enormous, this is why he’s the best defender in the league. Griffiths kicked 3 in the last term. Jack Riewoldt contributed calmness and vision. As Sean Ross says the one-time Coleman medallist could win the Brownlow as a midfielder. And Sam Lloyd – you cannot kick a ball any better than he connects with this kick after the siren. Whatever else happens this season, we’ll always have Saturday night.
2014 R23 v Swans – Dusty Dusty Dusty!
My son Marcus and I were at ANZ for this game. Terrible venue but what a cracker of a match, and what a result for the long suffering Tiges faithful. Finals confirmed. The game dragged on for some minutes after this but the collective wisdom consider this the “winning goal” and it certainly is fitting. Dustworth Q. Martin dobbed it into the cheer squad right in front of us. Sensational.
2015 Round 7 v Collingwood
I woke up this morning feeling horribly tense and miserable. By the time we had plunged to be 28-2 down in the first quarter, I was actually feeling OK. Bugger it, I thought, its just footy. Then Ty finished the quarter with a goal, then Griggs opened the second with another, then we kicked seven more and went out to a 24-point lead. An incredibly creditable performance with so many babies in the side, against an opposition who never gave us an easy ball all day.
2004 Round 5 Richmond v Hawthorn
Early in this clip Dennis describes the game as the contest to decide the worst team in the AFL. The Tiges did in fact take the spoon on percentage from the Hawks, with their last of 4 wins coming in round 8. Genuine spuds who pop up in this clip include Brent Hartigan, Luke Weller (ex Lion), Simon Fletcher (ex Carlton) and Tim Fleming.
2013 Round 19, Hawthorn v Richmond
This win was arguably the high point of the last 5 years as a Tiger supporter. Knocked off the top team and eventual premiers. Look away on 1:16 or you will see Steve Morris doing what he still does most weeks; just not executing a basic skill. At 3:40 is something we’ll sadly never see again, as Tucky lines up for a clutch set shot and nails it nervelessly.
2002 Round 7, Richmond v Sydney
Key moment: David Rodan holds the ball for what seems like about four minutes while he waits for the right lead, then hits Ottens. After that the result of the kick didn’t matter, it was all about the clock.
1994 Round 15 Adelaide v Richmond
I was enjoying this game when I realised it was 20 years ago and one day ago. This is a stirring finish where the Tigers who dominated the second half just manage to stay in front of the Crows at Footy Park. Matt Rogers is fantastic, Justin Murphy shows some great hands and Mark Neeld pops up to kick one of his 33 career goals.
You may remember the 1994 round-ball World Cup which was on at this time. Colombia were eliminated, and Andres Escobar was shot dead on his return home, for scoring an own goal. There is a chilling banner waved at the end of this game; saying CORNES FOR COLUMBIA with a smoking gun. And apparently sponsored by SA-FM, nice. Cornes as a high-leaping key forward was one of the stars of one of our earlier clips. Cornes saw out the season but was replaced by Robert Shaw.
In 1994 the Tigers won 12 games and finished in the spot they have made their own, 9th. But they were on the way up from 4 wins in 1993, heading for 15 wins and a preliminary final in 1995. Of course after that they finished 9th, 12th, 9th, 13th and 9th in the next five years.
1974 GF v North Melbourne
Tiges secure back-to-back premierships. This is the first colour TV grand final, makes it seem closer to today somehow.
